CRIMEAPPLE rocks over the type of production rap nerds have been creaming themselves over the past few years. The sounds are haunting, unwelcoming (think Alchemist, Daringer, Marco Polo)- in other words nothing close to the radio/charts- and for that we’re thankful. But where contemporaries like Roc Marciano and Westside Gunn have a stash box full of charisma, carving out a unique lane, CRIME is still figuring it out. His skills are sharp, DJ Skizz’s production is as grimy as ever- but is that enough to choose this over Mach Hommy? Good news is, we can have both. All we got is time these days, right? If ‘Skeleton Key’ is an indicator of where this kid is headed… we’re here for it.
