Childish Gambino: 3.15.20

2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival - Night 1 - Show

I supposed it’s too early to call Donald Glover’s 3.15.20 the album of the year- so let’s instead call it the best and most complete record of his career. He’s a mysterious dude, so if this is his last “Childish Gambino” record- so be it. It’s a beaut. There’s a gorgeous balance of world reflection and personal freedom throughout, which signifies an artist pinpointing and delivering art without pretense. There’s no denying that Awaken, My Love! was a moment. It was Donald’s massive turning point, leaving the Wu Tang generated Childish Gambino in the dust. His prior cornball laments were forgiven-lost in the rear view- ushered forward by a new lust for funk and soul. 3.15.20 harnesses that amalgamation of sounds and delivers through a crystal clear algorithm for right now.  A+
