Somewhere in Brooklyn there’s an Ez Bake Oven the size of a brownstone. Dudes and chicks with tiny pants and tinier plaid shirts walk in wide-eyed and innocent carrying nothing but their instruments, and come out with Pro Tools, songbooks, and gnarly beards. Remarkable.
Spires is a Brooklyn quartet with a love for all things British and dreamy, tossed in Janes Addiction wing sauce. Their work suggests a snide, sideways smile that comes from spinning records by The Stone Roses and Blur as kids. Buzz band? Without a doubt, they had a residency at Pianos this summer, and played tons of shows at this years CMJ. Worthy? Most definitely.
They have a 90’s vibe that’s drenched in harmony, making it nearly impossible not to hum along. Check out the clip for “Candy Flip” and try not to smile.
