lil wayne might sound like he’s brain damaged…he might not make sense a lot of the time, but the undeniable fact is that wayne is a master business man. young money/cash money is the label, and anything they touch turns to gold. drake and nicki minaj were sure shots, and the next champion coming from the young money camp…is cory gunz.
cory is the son of peter gunz, one half of the 90’s duo lord tariq and peter gunz. they were responsible for the monster, “deja vu (uptown baby)” single, a song that was part of my teenage soundtrack. cory gunz, born and raised in the bronx, is a wordsmith in the vein of cassidy. he takes pride in his ability to tell a tale yet still remain clever with a wild style, sometimes changing flows two or three times in a single song.
cory’s young money debut hasn’t dropped yet, but his blazing “son of a gun” mixtape is available for free all over the web. it’s a 25 song banger worthy of the time you spend picking through the massive collection…shortening it to 18 tracks wouldn’t have hurt. but that’s what i love about young money records…they aren’t about half-assing anything. they do it big, every time.
in case you’re wondering, yes this is the same cory gunz that stole the spotlight on wayne’s 6’7 single a while back, which is hard to do because on this one…wayne goes hard. watch around the 3 minute mark when cory decides his time is now.
download “son of a gun”, it does not disappoint.
