weston, albini and trainer make up a band named shellac. they formed in chicago a long time ago. they’ll never quit their day jobs and they’re the most brutally awesome three-piece band i’ve ever heard. ever.
the first shellac song that made its way to my ears (thanks again to my buddy shawn) called “my black ass”, punched me in the gut. the guitars sound like razor blades. every once in a while i’ll hear a new band with some mean in their bones and i’ll think, “these guys are the new shellac”. then my shuffle brings up “copper” off of 1998’s Terraform and i can’t help but laugh.
nothing’s even close.
